They include secretaries, filing clerks, or mangers that focus primarily on processing and distributing information created by others. In most companies, information needs also vary by specialized area such as manufacturing, finance and human resources.
During the late 1960s and early 1970s when the computers began to enter in organization, computer specialists often envisioned a future in which the information needs of all specialized areas would be met through one giant information system. More recently they have increasingly been recognizing that it is difficult for a single system to simultaneously meet all the information needs of an organization, particularly large ones like American Express or General Electric. In addition, information requirements of various organizations parts are dynamic and can change rapidly, making one major system all the more difficult to design and implement. To facilitate the sharing information, many organizations are installing LAN, WAN which can provide communication at larger distances. More recently these companies are further developed through intranet which is internal organizational network.
